Updated: Jun 13, 2018
“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing ”
- C.S. Lewis
Leadership as a field of research is only about 100 years old. In the early days, the field’s scholars focused on “Great Men” theories – the Washington’s, the Lincoln’s, the Eisenhower’s – to discern what we could mimic from them to apply to our own leadership. Over time, we’ve discovered that leadership is actually a set of Technical, Cognitive, and Emotional competencies that can be learned and practiced successfully by almost anyone.
The renowned scholar and author C.S. Lewis, most famous as the author of the Narnia Chronicles, accurately captures in his statement that courage is the foundation upon which all other leadership characteristics rest. This simple yet profound declaration is the “Big T” truth upon which the concept of “Courageous Leadership” is founded.
